all 4 headlights on at the same time??

I have an '86 irocz with '88 wiring and a tilt column from a '91 gta. Ever since i installed the '88 irocz wiring all 4 headlights are on when the lights are on.. Its only supposed to be the outside two for running lamps and the inside two for the brights... The brights indicator is on on the dash. Is there a problem with the wiring? is it my brights switch? Would re-wiring the headlights fix this problem?

I thought the default was supposed to be only the two outside for running lights and all four for full brights.? If that's what you have then I'd say it's normal and supposed to be that way.

No.. When the lights are on normally with no brights the outside lights are on and the brights are on but dim. they shouldnt be on at all. Thats my problem. I cant figure it out in the wiring. I'm begining to think it is the brights switch thats on the column.

Ah.. Could it be that one harness was made for H4 and the other for sealed beam? I cannot imagine how the column & switch could produce such a fault. I'm sure it lies in the lamp socket configuration. A common fault that produces this effect is the lack of ground to the lamps.

OK, cool. So the outside ones are the lows, and the inside ones are the highs.

Right on.
