alternator from a 95 caddy
I pulled an alternator off a 95 caddy concours and had it tested 3 times at different places. alternator is good but i cant get it charge in my 91 firebird. I did an lt1 swap and the caddy alternator fit in the bracket and is 140amp so i figured i would use it. is there some special wiring i have to do to make it work?
Im using the stock plug from my firebird with one large red wire and a small brown wire on it. have power to the brown wire and the red wire has power as well. i have been told this is a 2nd gen cs144 alternator and when i think back i only remember 1 wire going to the alternator on the caddy pigtail and it was a skinny wire.
This is the end of a 4 month project car starts and runs damn well just need the charging system to work so i can take her on a drive.
Any ideas?

Re: alternator from a 95 caddy
well found the problem the 2nd gen cs144 only needs one wire to run it. you can use different setups that use more than one wire but it will still require a different plug to do it. here is the manual i found for them http://www.v8mr2.com/reference/alternator2.pdf
basically it says you can use the S terminal as a sense wire and the L terminal activates the alternator. you would need to put an 80ohm 5watt resistor in line on the L terminal or you can just use the L terminal with the resistor and it will sense the voltage internaly. just figured i would share that in case anyone else needs this info. the caddy alternators are built strong and i got mine from a junkyard off a really low miles caddy for 30bux. a lot better than $140 new at a parts store.
