Need some wiring advice on an 87 Z28
Hi guys, I am new to the site, I just recently picked up a 1987 Z28 for a REALLY good deal. I have to say all the info here is great, but i have been searching and couldn't find an answer to this. The problem I have is my interior light, car stereo, horn, and power door locks do not work, however my power windows work and the dash lights (sorta of work i.e. dim and flickery). I don't know a whole lot about auto wiring but I am pretty good with electrical componets so i should be able to handle the repair, i just need advice on where to start, and what someone thinks the problem may be.
Thanks
Danny

honestly the whole thing sounds like a ground issue or a battery issue. if you havent already perform a load test on the battery, just reading surface voltage doesnt show anything. and i do not think that there is common ground between those devices.
im sure u checked the bulbs for the interior lights, but is it possible that the pinswitches on the doors are stuck in. as for the stereo, is it aftermarket or stock? if its aftermarket pull it out and check the fuse on the unit, it is typically on the chasis of the radio right around the wire harness plug, and regardless of type of radio check to see if all the wires that should be getting power are and all the ones that arnt, arnt. the horn is probably just 21 years old and not working but just find it on the car ( i just did a quick look but i cant find it becuse im bymyself and have no one to honk the horn for me) and make a jumper goin straight to the horn and if it goes it goes. it is probably a two horn system, one high pitched and one low. as far as the locks they might also just be old, i had to replace both of the actuators on my 91 rs when i did my alarm because it only locked when it was 70+degrees outside.
you can test the locks by pulliing ur driver kick panel off and there is a lt blue and a black wire right by each other and if you check voltage on those, the ltblue should get a positive 12v signal when u lock and the black gets it on unlock
the dash lights may be a bad dimmer switch on the headlight switch, if u play with that and it clears up u need to replace that.

hey thanks for all the good info. I tested the stereo and it is fine .. i tested the power wire coming in for the stereo on my camaro and it showed no voltage coming through. I'm not sure if this could have gotten disconnected somewhere or if there's just a short somewhere or something. I've been thinking about running a 12v wire from the battery directly to the cd player and just putting an automotive flip switch in there, but i only wanna do that as a last resort. Any ideas why that wouldn't be getting any juice?

if u checked the fuses and they are all good and u just want to get your stereo going u can drop your lower driver dash panel and tap into the acc(shows 12v only when key is in on or acc position) wire and the 12v constant wire because they are both coming off the key switch instead of hillroding it up with a bunch of toggle switches
