Missing Temp Gauge Sender

The block I have is a 1974 cmj block from a police impalla. I bought it like this in the camaro. I have looked on the driver side head between plugs 1 and 3. I have found no green wire or any place for a sender to go. Does someone have a pic of one in a car. And what do I do if I don't have a place to put a temp guage sender. I want a temp guage.
I have a 86 Iroc.

Re: Missing Temp Gauge Sender

I have an 86 iroc and my temp gauge sender is located on the passenger side down in between 6 & 8 Plug. Like you say it is a green wire.

If you don't have one in the block you might have to get one installed. But all these blocks should have a temp sender gauge, have not seen any car without a temperature gauge.

Take out the pipe plug from between the #1 and #3 cylinders. It's there, trust me. If you're using 74 heads (yuck), you'll need to use a pipe bushing to mount a thirdgen temperature sender.

That's the fan switch, not the gauge sender.

Yeah, I am using the 74 head as well, And whats the pipe plug? Is that the coolant drain plug? Cause I was thinking of removing the drain plug on the drivers side head and threading in the temp guage sender.

That's the one. It's not so much a drain as a place to put temperature senders.

Funny how if I disconnect that wire the temp gauge inside the cluster stops working.

Far as I know my fan is controlled via the ECM which gets its temperature from the CTS sensor.

Re: Missing Temp Gauge Sender

Yes it is, but I really doubt they would have changed the sensor over. Brake booster, A/C stuff is still in its original place. But who knows.
