Fuses
ok, So my camaro has electrical problems for as long as I've had it, it did the whole interior light, horn, cigerette lighter, rear hatch release not working thing, and I had read on the board that its the fuse.
I went through and cleaned every fuse.. and cleaned all the terminals for the fuse block and put them all back in.. even switched them around and such.. just to see no results.. I tried a lot of different things.. but with no luck..
I feel stupid now, because this could have all been solved.. a lot sooner if i would have just bought a new set of fuses.. or used a continuity tester.. because I had no problem.. apparently I had a bunch of bad fuses.. even though they didnt look bad..
I had spend I don't know how many hours trying to figure this out.. researching on TGO trying to figure out solutions, tracing wires places to see if they were unhooked.. the other night I just randomly decided to replace all my fuses.. all the sudden the little clock in my center console starts ticking.. my horn works.. and so on and so forth..
so my suggestion to anyone before the start trying to figure out why something isnt working, is to get the proper tools.. and test your fuses.. haha..
I was so excited that the stuff on my car worked now.. I honked the horn on my car for like 10 minutes.. lol.. bet my neighbors loved that..
can anyone maybe shed some light on why fuses would go bad, but look like they are still good? I wouldn't doubt that a good chunk of the fuses are original..

Re: Fuses
Good advice. You can get a multi-meter for under $10. Check resistance, continuity, measure voltage drop.
I haven't run across a bad fuse that didn't obviously look blown myself. But theoretically it could crack inside as opposed to burning apart.

Re: Fuses
thats the thing.. it would have had to be multiple fuses.. because i even tried different fuses in the assc. spot.. nothing.. i dunno.. although i dont doubt the fuses being 25 years old
Re: Fuses
Plus fuses are so inexpensive that if you have any doubt, just replace with a new one. That is odd that they all were bad. Could be a coincidence, but it more than likely something caused them all to blow.

Re: Fuses
it wasnt all the fuses.. just more than one that i tried.. cuz the car still started.. and ran.. and certain things still worked.. but I dont know how much is controlled by the fuse block since i pulled the cpu out of my car.
im kinda thinking that someone the fuses just got corroded on the inside somehow?

Re: Fuses
The fuses are often made of aluminum and can get a layer of dark grey oxide. I have seen this to be able to insulate some fuse brands completely. Scraping their blades with a knife would reveal shiny metal and make the fuse work. If you did this and it still didn't work then it would have to be metal fatigue. Having a close look at them while trying to move the blades should reveal any cracks. I can't remember having seen that fault myself however.
