voltage regulator going bad?

Hey everyone
my 91z has been reading high volts lately (according to the dash guage) its reading around the mark between the middle and far right mark, so about 15-16 volts. reason i think its going bad is a couple times when i tossed it in reverse with lights on at night it died a couple times and it was because the voltage dropped to quickly. anyway...this makes me think it could be going bad? any suggestions? also the voltage regulator is built in the alternator correct?

YOU WILL COMPLY WITH THE REGULATION

Yes the reg. is in the alt.

First you must be sure your battery is good.

Now the factory gage might not be accurate.

So get a test instrument quality voltmeter.

Look at your dash gage at the same time you observe the test gage.

If it’s really over 15.5 then replace the alt.

About your stalling when going to reverse:

When the RPM dropped because the torque converter took hold of your engine the alt probably dropped below its cutoff speed.

If you have a good battery it will have more than enuff power to prevent you from stalling just because the alt might have turned off for a few seconds.
