Confused

I recently purchased a 1988 camaro and was told it had a 350 vortec in it. I then run the vin number and it came back as a 2.8 liter v6. There is a v8 in it but I'm not sure if it's a 305 or a 350. Can someone please help me with identifying what motor I have in my car? Also will the ecm for a 2.8 match the ecm for a v8? Need help pronto in WV. Thanks!

INSTANT V8. JUST ADD 2 CYLINDERS

Look at the block.

The block has an engine identification number.

It’s just below the right cylinder head, to the rear of the timing cover.

Then get a friend at a dealership to look it up.

There are differences in the ECM but we don’t have the details here.

Re: INSTANT V8. JUST ADD 2 CYLINDERS

Here's a couple of suffix code lists. I don't know if they are 100% all inclusive... I think I tried to look up my block which was ended up being out of an '89 Blazer, and they didn't have it... But, who knows, it's probably worth a quick check:And, here's a pretty clear picture of the location where you will find the suffix code.

Hope that helps. Good luck.
