Cigarette Lighter Removal?

Hello,

Does anyone know how to remove the original cigarette lighter cylinder? I already have a generic replacement with element from the auto parts store but can't get the original one out?

Pull the shifter **** off, pull the center console top loose, flip it over(as best you can), then the cig plug socket had a thin, circular cylinder "nut" holding it up to the console lid.

BTW, Vegas, providing make, model, engine, trans, etc. in your profile is convenient for the rest of us. I assume you have an IROC from your user name. I have no experience with removal, but it would appear that four hexes hold the panel in place. I'd remove them and gently pull the assembly toward me to see what I had.

My apologies. 1990 IROC. 305 TPI Manual Trans. The Cigarette lighter is mounted on the dash opposite of the headlamp ****.

Re: Cigarette Lighter Removal?

The cigarette lighter is actually two pieces.

The back portion screws off, allowing you to pull the rest of the lighter out the front of the plastic panel.

yea grab the part that is behind the plastic trim and twist it, it will come off like taking a bulb out of a socket in your house
