help dumb mistake

its a 82 camaro z28 swapped 350 carbed, when i got it the heater box and such was out but all the wiring was still there, so today i figured id trim it up some, got rid of wires that ran to nowhere and cut out other stuff that seemed to have no purpose, now i have no power to anything at all car wont crank nothing at all almost like the batteries toast but i even put it on the charger to double check and still nothing, all the wires that go to the battery are still conencted so idk

anyone ?

Re: help dumb mistake

I would check the fuseable link wires comming off the starter first, and then check for ground.

Re: help dumb mistake

Start at the battery and check the big wire to the engine block first then small wire to body. That should supply ground to the entire car. All other electrical parts will be grounded individaly to the body. I think you may have blown a fuseable link at the stater,You can check with a test light.

Re: help dumb mistake

If you have no power to anything, you probably shorted the links. They feed all the power to the fuse box.Or u cut one of them.

Re: help dumb mistake

When u cut wires that are live (have power) you may have grounded one with your wire snips, you must always check for live wires before you cut many wires at once. Also did you check the fuses?

Re: help dumb mistake

this is why i try not to cut any wires. i just run them back through the firewall and tuck them under the dash. learned my lesson the hardway to.

Re: help dumb mistake

when you cut a bundle of wires like that, its also smart to tape up the end of each wire individually, instead of all of them at once. I've seen people cut a harness and tape the whole open end together, come to find out there was 2 wires that have different polarities and can short something. Not likely, but its not worth chancing.
