Alternator wiring...

I've got a question that I thought I would throw up on here. My car has not been starting despite the fact that it sounds like it is trying to. It is a hybrid LG4/L69 due to the fact that the original L69 blew up. I have it timed almost exact, new wires, plugs, cap, rotor, ignition module. Starter fluid, and i obviously have air. I can sometimes hear the engine popping so I have spark.

Now here is the question. I was working on it trying to figure out the problem. I don't have the red and black wires hooked up to the back of the alternator due to a broken stud (NOT THE CLIP). My sleeve brushed both wires and it started sparking like crazy, yes I know I had the battery hooked up . Because this stud is a BAT. terminal is it possible that the car is not starting because those wires are not hooked up? From what I have read, heard and been told, it sounds like if those two wires are not hooked up to the BAT. terminal the car will not run. I have it cranking but it will not run. It is an L69 Alternator.

Thanks in advance for the input. I took the Alternator back out and am taking it to an auto electric shop to have the stud fixed as it will have to be done anyway.

You said it cranks and has spark.

Anyway you can temporarily clip those wires together to see if that’s the problem.

Re: Alternator wiring...

Well I got the alternator fixed for half the cost of getting a new one. Still won't start. I am thinking either its timed on the wrong stroke or there is no spark again. Or finally maybe the starter is shot. I am getting tired of playing around and trying to figure it out. I've fixed things, replaced things and its still cranking but not firing. Maybe I will take it down to the Local mechanic and he can get it running for me. I've probably timed it 6+ times all of them making sure the valves are closed and # 1 is at TDC.
