reverse switch question

Car: 1990 firebird formula
Engine: 5.0 tpi
Transmission: t-5
reverse switch question
90 5.0 formula,I think someone swapped the auto for a stick.there are 3 wires coming down from the car harness and only 2 wires on the switch.well I took a jumper wire from the battery and touched each wire from the car side,2 wires nothing came on but one wire the fan and inside buzzer came on.why would there be 3 wires on the cars harness and on ly 2 on the switch.also the tranny thats in it has a cable driven speedo hook up and its suspose to have a vss.do I just have pull the cable guts out and get a vss and put it in?

sounds like someone put in an older trans, in which case you need to find the right one. and check out a wiring diagram on that plug

Supplying 12V to unknown wires is NOT SMART!! Do you not like your car and want to set it on fire or blow the ECM? You're headed in the right direction.
The backup switch on the T5 uses two wires: blue and green. I bet you touched the blue wire that made the fans and buzzer come on. You were back feeding the ignition circuit.
If you put 12V on the green wire and the reverse lights don't come on, check the bulbs in the tail lights.
And I wouldn't screw with the third wire if I didn't know what it was for.
