Question on headlights just fitted new ones.

I just changed over my headlights with brand new ones bought from summit. They cost like $6 each for both the low beams and high beams.

Anyway, I have noticed that when the low beams are on, the high beams appear to be on too. It looks like the filament is just hot enough to light up and they are just ever so slightly illuminated.. Is this normal or should the high beams be completely off when low beams are on?

Just wondering if I have a problem with my wiring or if I need to replace the wiring when I put these new lights in.

Don't think I noticed this to happen with my old lights, but I did have modified lights for Australian standards where as now I just installed US lights.

Re: Question on headlights just fitted new ones.

Well back to the original question no the high beams should not be partially on they should be completely off when the low beams are on. I would try putting the old ones back in if you have them just to see if it is maby a problem with the lights but i dont believe it will make a difference. Its a good place to start though.

I can try and connect the old ones back up. But if they don't do it would this mean a problem with the new headlights? I doubt they they are bad but who knows.

I just wonder if this all could be related to a wiring issue and how I could check it.

What modifications did you do, for Australian standards? A wiring mod?

I did nothing to these lights unless the wiring has been modified for the Australian lights that were in, but I don't see why the wiring would have needed to be modified.

The only difference in the Australian lights is that they dip to the LEFT. While the USA lights dip to the right. That is the only difference I can think of. I do however recall the Australian modified lights I took out did have an extra bulb attached to the headlights.

I am going to check the voltage drops across the headlights and see if I can see anything.

Just gotta figure out what is causing the high beams to just ever so slightly light up while the low beams are on.

Re: Question on headlights just fitted new ones.

I just plugged in one old low beam light and funnily enough the high beams were completely off on both sides. Plug the new low beam headlight in and both high beams just glow a little.

I am just going through the voltage checks of the headlights.

Battery voltage is 11.5 and at the low beam I am getting 9.9volts. At the high beam I am getting 9.3volts.

My old headlights are not sealed beam. Anyway I have decided to leave the new high beams in place, and just buy a new bulb for my Aussie low beams and the problem should be fixed. I should have really done this to begin with, but the cost was so cheap for new lights I just got them along with some other stuff.
