Eating Alternators
I finally timed my car and such and its been running good. I took it out for 2 hours last night between like 10-12. This looks like the 2nd alternator it killed. The battery gauge drops slowly and was around 9v when I was pulling up to my house. The radio kept shutting off and when I turned high beams off it would go back on. Instead of a 10A fuse the radio has a 30 because I have dual fans plugged in. It also says INFL rest when the radio goes off.

Youve got something that is pulling too mch wattage/amperage from the alternator. You need to go through your electrical system and see why. Are you running an amp for your sound system? If so, you may need to install a capacitor inline to it on the power circuit.

I don't have an amp. I have the fan hooked up to radio fuse. Tach up to ACC and something else. Either way it was all fine before, I don't understand.

Re: Eating Alternators
Well few things i see. First off there are other reasons a charging system will fail other than the alternator so if you just changed the alternator and it still dosnt work that dosnt mean that it killed that alternator too just that you may have other issues. Second about swapping the 10A fuse with a 30A fuse, fuses are designed to protect the wires and if it has a 10A fuse that means that the wires were designed to deal with no more than 10A under any circumstances. So by simply switching to a 30A fuse to run dual fans off the radio circuit i would not be supprised in the slightes if you developed a break in that wire or a short as result of the insulation being melted off due to the overload.

I have a wire that was spliced into the starter and went to a button. I had a starter button. I had the end in the car electrical taped. I looked today its still spliced in the wire and something burned another part of the wire which I think can do that.

Re: Eating Alternators
I just read something about it having to do with the fan fuse for some reason and I just took mine out a couple days ago. I just got another fuse and I am waiting to see if it works. Has to charge
