is my VATS causing this??
I just converted my 89 trans am from tpi to carb, i am almost done with the conversion. I ripped all the wiring out and only used a few wires fromt he bulkhead connector. So far everything works except my car wont crank over. I hooked up the started from the purple wire connection to + and it cranked. so i'm guessing it has something to do with the VATS, i do not have the ECM connected anymore either.
What do you think it could be?
When my car was an automatic i had a viper remote start/alarm system installed, after the t56 i never messed with the remote start again, could that be causing it?

Nice, another jump 100 years back.
If you removed the ECM, your VATS isn't controlling anything anymore.
The Starter Enable Relay is one of the things that has no signal as well.
You need to bypass the relay so that you can use the key to start the engine.
It should be either by the fusebox or behind the driver side kick panel.
Hope this helps.

Re: is my VATS causing this??
The signal is coming from the VATS box (burried deep in the dash) but if you removed the ECM fuse, the VATS box won't work. If you replace the 10A fuse in the fuse block, the starter might turn, it might be as easy as that.
Let us know how it goes.

Also, if you removed only ECM wiring, the Starter Enable Relay circuit should be still intact. But if you removed more wiring than that, it's hard to tell.
You can use this troubleshooting article to find the cause of your no-crank condition:
