I just purchased a '88 GTA and have been taking out all the dang alarm system wiring someone put in the car at some time in its life. The alarm system no longer worked so I was trying to clean up some of the wiring in the car and that's the reason for the removal. Now my question is there is a metal relay? under the hood release handle inside the car with two wiring connectors plugged into it. The metal relay? with the 2 wiring connectors plugged into it, is this a factory piece for the gta's or something added? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Is it behind the kick panel? There is a relay located behind the driver side kick panel and under the hood release handle. It is the starter enable relay for GM cars equipped with VATS (theft deterrent system). However, the relay should be plastic. Perhaps it is a relay for door lock actuators?

 

A picture and/or wire colors generally help with identifying electrical components.
