Rear hatch pops while driving.
I recently rebuilt my hatch pull down on my 1989 IROC with parts from TDS, everything seem to work great, except it pops while driving on some of the rougher roads in the area. The switch is working properly and won't release the hatch when the car is in gear. Is there an adjustment I need to make ? Any help would be appreciated. Thank's

HATCHED AN IDEA
You need to find out if it’s being electrically released VIA a short, or if it’s being mechanically released.
You can find out a with a telltale fusible link across the release solenoid.
OR
It might be a mechanical problem.
Make sure the mechanism from the key tumbler thru the cam lever that releases the latch is OK and that the springs are still as strong as they should be.
When replacing parts it’s possible to over-bend springs, thus weakening them.

HATCHED AN IDEA 2
I have purposely opened the hatch while driving.
I can close it while driving also.
I merely have to go 60 or better and the air will close it.
I need to have one of the windows open a bit for that trick to work.

It is being released electronically ,then is raises as it should then the hyd. supports lift it the rest of the way.

Update: The hatch still pops up every day I drive the car. At first I thought it was an electrical issue so I completely removed the solenoid to eliminate that issue and it still pops. When it's closed I can pull up on the deck lid and it feels solid and tight. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Rear hatch pops while driving.
Sounds as if the mechanical latch isn't catching properly. You stated that it would not "pop" while in gear but that it will "pop" while driving. It seems like the saftey feature is working, but it's not staying latched as it should ..... Once un-latched the pull down motor's "trigger" will sense that and go Up/Down as it's expected to do.
The only thing that will open the hatch on a working set-up is the release soleniod, or the key tumbler / cable. They have nothing to do with the Up/Down motion of the pull down unit. Stick your key in the hatch lock and see if it "springs back" after you turn it ! Like NINA said,..... be sure to check the Key Tumbler / Cam and that the cable from the key tumbler to the latch is OK and not binding up !

Re: Rear hatch pops while driving.
H, I am exeriencing he same thing. he hatch-pull down part work pefectly. When driving I hear the pop from the remote release solenoid and the hatch is open. I removed the control wire from the solenoid and it still happns. The key does not spring back when turned but moves freely.
What is the fusble link across he solenod? If I think it is the key elease cable how do I lubricate it or do have to get a new solenoid / release mechanism?
I aklready checked every wire for breaks and wear and tightened down evey ground nut.
When the car is off the hatch is tightly secure. Wth the control wire removed, the interior switch no longer works (as is expected) but even when connected it only worked with the parking brake on. Without power to the solenoid how can I still hear it activate?

Replace the spring to see if the problem goes away.
