GTA Runs, Wife Tries To Moon Me... GTA Dies... Bad Alt Right?
Tonite I was pulling up my driveway (nice sloping hill upward) and gunned it because my wife was standing at the top of the driveway about to moon me and just as I punch it my car died.
I have heard of the trick of disconnecting the posi ground on the battery and if car goes dead then its your alternator thats bad. Thats basically what happened except I didnt pull it off it had just gotten loose. I wiggled it lights came back on and car cranked right up.
Got to the top of the driveway and wiggled it again (left car running) and car stalled then died.
Cranked it back up and checked the volts and it read just outside the dashed area (10.5 or so). It was as low as it could be w/o being in the danger area. I wanted to show you all a pic of the gauge but I cant upload it for some reason. I can email it if youd like.
Not sure how long this has been going on but my car has had a sputtering problem for some time now when I try to really get on it.
Is it possible that if my car has been living off of the battery that when I punch it the battery cant supply enough fire fast enough and the car just sputters instead of getting good pickup as it should? Thats keeping in mind that the alternator is about dead.
By the way my wife thinks the sight of her butt made my car shut off I think it just scared my car to death!!

Thats a volt gauge but you would be correct. Have the guy at the parts store rest it just to make sure before he boxes it up as your core.

Thanks for the Amp/Volt correction, made the change. What about the sputtering, could that contribute?

sounds more like stripped threads in the battery if you wiggle the cable and it sputters.
