02 steering column swap

Hello I have a 91 wiring harness in the car and I'm looking to put in a new steering column, has anybody ever tried to install a 00-02 camaro column in a third gen? if so was it a straight install or a mod job, do you need new connectors for the wiring? I just have a chance to pick up an 02 column for cheap and I like the looks of it also. thanks and any info would be appreciated.

Re: 02 steering column swap

Actually I didn't search anything except the electrical forum because I wanted answers about the wiring issues associated with the conversion. The other length issues and wheel fitment (I'm using a 4th gen wheel now) I can knock off with a mig or a tig pretty easy, but I do need to know if I need connectors or electronics to make it work. Have you read those links you sent me? all they tell you is no it is not a direct fit, do you yourself have any info except sending me links do you know exactly what i'm looking for? if you have please tell me the info or post pics, this would really be appreciated

I never search specific forums, because threads often diverge into other areas.

No personal experience, since I have a pre-VATS car and no interest in putting a VATS column in my car.

Maybe you can ask those who did the 4th gen column swap, what they did for their electronics? Easier to PM & ask those who have, than to wait & hope THAT person your YOUR thread in THAT Forum.

Could see if anyone has a pin out diagrams for a '91 and '02 column and compare the two.

Re: 02 steering column swap

Hello that is kind of what I'd like to get my hands on wiring diagrams for the column itself if they have them, also I can't find any pics out there of 4th gen steering column measurements. I guess the only way to do this is to actually get my hands on it and fight it through. I have 3 tilt columns out of third gens, all the same parts are worn out, so I'll at least be able to do some cut and paste with the fourth gen column. One more question anybody here that has installed a 4th gen dash use the third gen column or the newer one?
