Engine starts then stalls
Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum, however I'd posted this in the engine forum earlier to no avail. I have a 1992 RS 305 tbi which ran fine until a few days ago when I detailed & degreased the engine compartment. I left the engine running while hoseing it down & all was well. Never stalled, idle never fluctuated or anything.
The next morning I went to start it & it started right up and idled for a minute or two, then started to stall. I can keep it running indefinitly by feathering the throttle but only by doing so. I thought maybe a moisture issue somewhere & checked dist. cap, all connectors & vaccuum lines I could possibly get to but so far it's the same symtom ( start, stutter, and stall ). Please, anyone that has any experience w/ this sort of problem I'd really appreciate your advice. Injectors seem fine ( cone-shaped fuel shooting onto both butterflies) until it dies. Thanks again in advance

Re: Engine starts then stalls
my 92 5-speed done the same thing.
now i can't say for sure which one fixed it but i think it needed all 3.
ok,first thing i bought was a idle control sensor?(i think that is name?)
it is located on the front passenger side of the throttle body.
it takes 2 scrrews to remove. there is something that is plugged into it with somes wires coming from the back.
the next item i replaced was inline fuel filter at the tank.
last, but not the least was the fuel pump. i don't know which one fixed the problem, but for the cost of the idle sensor i reccommend replacing both.
i bought the parts at advance auto,or autozone.
the fuel pump had lifetime warranty for 56.00 with tax.
the idle sensor was around 26.00 i think?
i have been told now that you can replace the fuel pump with an
outside version as long as you put a fuel pressure line on the other line?
you probably need to make sure about this thouhgh.
hope it helped some,
good luck,
jd
