comp problem? won't turn over, help please
1991 camaro rs convertible auto 305 tbi
Ok here"s the short of it. SHORT i think is the key word. Well 1st thing, idiot that I am I went to hook up a fan relay control switch, and didn't check the wires, the relays were switched and i hooked it to the fuel pump relay, bam killed it assuming i fried a transistor in the comp i ran a hot wire to a switch in the dash and ta da it works. just had to prime with switch. works for approx a month then occasionally nothing. Only clicks in steering column when turning the key then eventually starts. Now won't start at all and the starter is turning some but only trying to grind teeth on flywheel. I go through and check the starter spacing, shim it just in case still won't turn motor over, flywheel won't budge. While checking stuff find blown ecm fuse....replaced fuse now when cranking interior lights flashing starter still trying to no avail...great what did i do.. would the comp keep the engine from turning over, or did i mess something else up in the ignition,
any input appreciated..i'm basicly a learning backyard mechanic stuck in a condo without lots of tools...i miss actually having a backyard instead of a parking lot lol

fuel pump green w/ white stripe is the relay on and the out of the ecm and the orange is the pump power the red is the tester port under the dash tan w/ blk wire is to the pump

My 89 fan would not work ?? The relay plug was melted and after trouble shooting the only thing could fig out was ECM bad?? I hooked up a after market adjustable fan relay and a junkyard piece of GM fan wire about 7 ft. wired it up according to the dir. and it runs the fan. Just removed the ecm and all of the related crap (ecm) switch to old school dist.intake and carb wating on a intake the one I had was broken only thing I had trouble with was the VATS

thanks for the response....no i get that the relays are different, i realized what i did and hooked up the fan switch correctly, fan switch works great no prob the prob is now the the car wont start after miswiring to the fuel pump relay, sorry didnt clarify very well now that i reread it. i have a seperate switch in dash with a momentary fused hot wire running to fuel pump relay to prime it, worked great for a while now nothing after a month or so, starter works engine won't crank at all, blown ecm fuse replaced fuse still no good

oh yeah i'm thinking this may have caused the problem or did i wire it up right...i ran the hot wire from the prime switch to the green/white wire on fuel pump relay, should it have been hooked somewhere else, it worked great for a while now nada....

my be time for a new pump its almost 20 now. If you have a 12 pin ALCL connector its the tester diagnostic under the dash above your right knee port A is ground B test terminal C A.I.R. smog pump E serial data F is tcc and G is fuel pump. Make a jumper wire and put it into the A and G. G is hot 12 volts and A is to ground if the pump works there is other problems if it doesnot work prob the pump bad.

Disregard the advice about fuel pump or other electrical components, you need to focus on turning your engine over right now.
