Remote start system, DIY installation?

Where can a buy a good remote start system to install myself?

How hard it it to install a security system yourself, what tips do i need to know?
Can anyone provide any wiriing diagrams or anything I made need?

I have done extensive work on cars myself but never an alarm, and im looking to do it asap, and i dont have the money to have one put in, everywhere here wants $300plus for a basic alarm

Re: Remote start system, DIY installation?

I asked the same question about a week ago. Its actually quite easy for just the alarm system. I think i had to splice like 4 wires for the alarm and install a few sensors like shock sensors and what not. You can get a basic alarm system fro like $150 bucks I believe with the clicker for keychain.

This helped me out a lot.

did you have to use relays on anything, or run into any problems?

I had no problems at all installing it. I thought it was quite easy to install for not being an electrical guy. I dont have automatic locks on my car though. Im going have to get actuators to run the automatic locks I want.

Re: Remote start system, DIY installation?

Most dealers will sell them with install only. It's a liability thing with the company that makes the alarm/remote start, especially for those with a manual transmission. About the only way you'll find one to install yourself is to buy one on-line, then any warranty is out the window.

Re: Remote start system, DIY installation?

i would only buy a dei product (clifford, viper, python, and less impressive from them avital, hornet...)

they are easiest to install, most widely supported by other installers and companies, and have the best quality.

it's pretty easy if you know how to wire things 12 volt wise... ground here, power there

go to the12volt.com

Re: Remote start system, DIY installation?

Really the only hard part is identifying the wires for the remote start. But for me the wiring diagram and schematics I found on this site were correct so it was pretty easy to do.

Re: Remote start system, DIY installation?

I think the hardest part was trying to access the wires under the dash. But once you identify/find the wires, its pretty easy to hook up... And yes, you can buy units online for cheap...
