stupid speedometer/tach
i recently purchased a 1990 camaro rs.
when purchased the previous owner made me aware that the tachometer reads around 4000 rpms when idling. no big deal...
but recently i installed 2 red neons under the dash on the driver and passanger sides to glow the floorboards red.. i installed my power to the 5 amp intr. panel fuse. . since then, the speedometer will stop working while driving down the road and then shoot back up to my current speed... so i took out the lights and im still getting the same result... help!

You might have a problem with the VSS located on the tranny.
Beg borrow or steal (but not mine) a handheld scanner so you can look at the VSS while in motion.

As far as the tach - search. There are a couple of extensive threads on how to repair the tachometer error.

Just a note about your extras on your post. In NC, if you have enough rain to turn on your wipers, you HAVE to run your head lights. Fogs don't count. If your car came equipped with DRL's, and they are m;ade inoperative, no pass on inspection. As far as running fog lights in the daytime, some counties in NC have madatory daytime light ordinances. Just another way for Big Brother to get a little money outta your pockets.....
