New owner chiming in with steering column problems
Just picked up an 86 z28 automatic with a 350 and 700r4. It ain't pretty but it runs good and was cheap. The body is a work in progress. It has the classic loose steering column that plagues GM cars from that year. The thing is when I turn the key, it will only crank if I jiggle the steering wheel kind of upwards. Anyone had this problem? Will fixing the loose column by removing the steering wheel fix this? It has also been suggested that I have a bad safety neutral switch, but I thought that is in the shifter. The car starts in park fine, haven't tried to start it in N. Thanks in advance!

Open up the column and tighten the lose bolts. If the problem is still present adjust the park lock at the base of the column near the IGN switch
