Should I even attempt this?

I am thinking about installing a tv sceen in dash of my '84 firebird. I am thinking about removing the part of the dash in front of the passenger seat and fabricating something so it will set into that. I know I would have to get a car dvd player but I can pick one of those up at the store. I am just wondering about wiring it. I looked at one and it runs on a cord that you plug into the cig lighter in the back seat. My question is should I even attempt this? Is it legal to have the screen in the front? How would I wire it into the car?

i think the best way to go is to get an indash screen that replaces the radio, they play dvds(not while driving) but you can bypass the parking gear to watch dvds while driving but hey that all up to you and you can get in trouble....your lookin into alot more work. look on ebay you can get em pretty cheap

Re: Should I even attempt this?

I was more concerned with the passenger being able to watch the movie and the driver just listen to it. I really dont want to give up my stereo. i mean I know that you wont be able to listen to both at the same time. I just thought it would be cool to have a dvd in the dash. I mean there really isnt enough from in the back seat for passengers if me and one of my friends are in the front. I am also considering take a road trip with a friend and dont want them to be bored as we have no plan except drive.

Re: Should I even attempt this?

i hear ya,i had a buddy in high school who had a z24 cavi and put a screen youd get from walmart pretty cheap under the dash above the passengers feet with a ps2 hooked up under the seat with a power inverter they have at walmart cheap to run it...did quite well.

wouldnt be to hard to mount one of those under the dash pad lip on the passanger side on the camaros id think.

(also he put the rca's from the ps2 into the back of his aftermarket cd player to have audio)

That is sweet, I had not thought about putting a video game system in it. I always do that when my family and me take a road trip cause we drive my moms van and I just use a 15 inch house tv. You got gears in my head turning now. How did he mount the screen in the dash?

Re: Should I even attempt this?

he took the glove compartment out if i remember....but i threw this together if this helps....you could use a ps1,xbox,wii or watever or just a cheapo 30$ dvd player and put it under the seat(they make them pretty small now a days)

im sure on the screens now you can take them off quick for anti theft reasons.

That is the right area where I was going to put it. I was just wondering if how we got it to stay. Did he build a frame that mounted to the glove box compartment or did he fiberglass it.

Re: Should I even attempt this?

not to brag but I know almost all the cops in my county and about 75% of the surronding areas including the highway patrol. It is not cause i get pulled over so much either, I am a volunteer fireman so I have alot of contact with them. I may fins a way to mount it and unmount it quickly so you can take it off and slid it under the seat or into your shirt.
