wiring terminal melted off alternator

The wiring terminal on my alternator melted (killing the battery and car) A new secure connection was soldered on and it seemed the problem was fixed, now 30 miles later the same thing battery barely reading above 8. It was dark and I just got off work so I haven't looked to see if the wire is melted again. Two questions 1-what can cause such a thing? 2- the VATS system is all sorts of weird, first the ignition cylinder was replaced due to a short. after 5 months or so the same vats crap started up again; sometimes the car just wouldn't start until the third, fourth or tenth time. Then the problem suddenly and mysteriously disappeared! I am fearful a vipers nest of electrical problems is hiding somewhere getting larger by the second... Is it possible that the two problems are related?

Warm Up My Lunch On The Alternator

If the solder is melting it means that area is getting to at least 362°.

A bad/dirty connection can cause it to heat up.

A short can cause it to heat up.

A bad battery can cause it to heat up.

If the battery is near it’s expiration date replace it.

Can’t tell from the info provided if the VATS problem is related.
