Timing problem

i was told that my timing wouldnt stay in time because the ignition module was either bad or broken. so i tested mine and its good. why else would my car not stay in time when set?

what car? what motor? carbed, TPI, or TBI? computer controlled? are you checking timing with the EST still plugged up?

The timing is going to be irratic and moving all around as long as the computer has control over it. You have to check and set BASE timing by unplugging the EST wire (Electronic Spark Timing) before you start the car, and check/adjust timing to spec with that unplugged, then after the BASE timing is set, you turn off car and plug the EST back up, then all should be as it should be (unles there's another problem like the EST module gone bad or something).

The est wire, is the black and tan wire connected the ignition module right?
