Replacing ’91 Electronic Speedo/Odo
My odometer has died and I would like to replace it. Looks like the replacing the entire Speedo/Odo gage is the easiest fix but I am looking for advice. No problem getting everything apart, I just want to get some questions answered.
If I buy a used 120 MPH gage, can I assume any ‘90-92 is functionally the same? (My needle and faceplate can be reused if needed.)
Does the donor gage need to come from a car with the same tire size?
Can the mileage be set on the donor gage to reflect the actual miles on my car?
Can just the odometer motor be swapped? (This is what I think the problem is – Speedo works; Odo does not.)
My SPID shows several codes relating to the Speedo. Will they affect the replacement gage I get? [D5V-Gear, Speedo Driven; D8M-Sensor, Vehicle Speed; E5Z-Speedo Adaptor (Delete); E9Z-Speedo Key (Delete)]
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

They're all the same. All of the offered tires had the same outside diameter (at least within an acceptable margin of error). The gearing differences were compensated at the speedometer gear. The only time those codes are applicable is when you're replacing and servicing the VSS.
Changing the odometer to match your car is almost stupid easy. My personal opinion is that it shouldn't be discussed on the forum in detail, but I'll just say that it's so simple that if you can't figure it out, you probably shouldn't be tearing your speedometer apart.
I've got a 120mph speedometer with a good, functional odometer for sale, and I can set it to whatever mileage you want for a price. See the classifieds if you're interested.

Thanks for the answers. I'll take your word that resetting the mileage is easy. I just did not want to take the one I had apart at the time. I took it out of the cluster to see if there was anything jamming the gears or other "quick fix". Just to be clear, the one you are selling is the electric - not cable - version used in a 91 Trans Am. If this is the case, I will PM you with my details from your parts ad.
Thank you.
Thank you.
