hi lo headlight switch HELP
hi lo headlight switch HELP
I have a 91 camaro rs....I bought it to fix up and a few pieces was already torn apart when I bought it. The panel covering the hi lo headlight switch was off in the floor with a little black piece of plastic laying with it. I can look into the steering column and see the high beam rod but I have no idea how it hooks to the hi beam handle............any pics would be great....

The switch mounts to the steering column, pass side of the column, just above the brake pedal. There are two screws that hold it in place, and you loosen those to adjust the switch. The rod end goes into the end of the switch in a small 'cup' like.
If you have a tilt wheel, make sure to set the tilt wheel where you normally drive, and then adjust the switch so that the lever actuates it on and off. If you have the wheel tilted all the way up, then the lever won't push the rod enough to actuate the switch (usually).

Re: hi lo headlight switch HELP
When you say hi and low headlight switch, are you referring to the turn signal arm that you pull back on to switch between beams? The socket that that lever plugs into has a little black plastic arm that works as a lever to push the rod forward. Perhaps that's the piece you speak of. Which of those parts do you have ?

What I mean to say is that we are confusing things with terminology here. Camaronewbie was talking about the hi lo beam switch that is located down the column and is actuated by the rod pushing in on the cuplike front of it to switch it back and forth. I think you are calling the turn signal lever or the part it goes into that contains the turn signal switch and the actuating lever for the hi lo beam switch the same thing. Hence the confusion. Good grief, what a mouthful! Am I remotely on the right track, or just having another flashback from the 60's? I think the piece in the column is broken, anybody know how to fix that?

I think you hit it right on the head----as far as I can tell there is nothing on the back of the turn switch..I can run my finger in behind it and it feels like a circut board I see no way to get it to work with just the 1 plastic piece that feel out.....I think it has been broken and slapped back together to sell it...........if anyone has a pic I would sure appreciate it....I looked at the diagram on this site and it was kinda confusing......

I went back outside and looked the rod is in the switch down by my feet on the column but behind the turnsignal handle it is hooked to nothing.......I took a couple of pics 1 pic showing the plastic piece that fell out when I took the cover off and another pic showing the rod behind the turn signal lever with nothing to hook too....
sorry about the confusing once I get this figured out then I will be able to help others with this problem...I hope oh yea I don't know how to post pics so if someone is interested in helping me I could email ya the pics.........thank you all very much

You have to make an account at like www.photobucket.com or some place similar, upload the pics to that, then you link to them here by clicking the little yellow square with the mountains in it.
More than likely, you'll have to go in through the steering wheel to get it fixed/replaced. This means you'll need a steering wheel puller (free rental at autozone/advance), pull the steering wheel of, and go in through there. If you have an airbag car and have to go this route, follow the directions to disable the bag first.
