More Mystery Wires

Hi All,

Would love to know what these go to , and if anyone can tell, you guys on thirdgen can. The Car runs, albeit rough, but it runs. 87 Firebird 305-700r4, all emmissions equipment has been deleted, ie. AIRE system/smog pump, cat, the piping for the AIRE system that was pipped under the spark-plugs was plugged by NPT plugs, all just for your reference...... Any help what be appreciated...

Re: More Mystery Wires

the red white and green ones are AIR and EVAP connectors, all emissions related, the yellow oily decrepit looking connector MIGHT be EGR

Re: More Mystery Wires

Thank You so very very much Chevy8588, I am still researching the answers you have provided, running back and forth from the garage to the internet trying to sort it. I am assuming the EVAP you are referencing, is evaporation of gasoline fumes encompassing such devices from say the charcoal canister to the gas cap and in between. NOW, i have to scour autozone.com, Hayes manuals etc.. and see if and whats left that can still be connected. Maybe still the EGR, it's at least still there~!!!!! BUT again thank YOU sincerely. Re: More Mystery Wires

I believe the egr was a one wire hook up, not a 2 wire. The EVAP wires would have been for the EVAP solenoid (most likely) and not the EVAP canister that is by the headlights. The purple looking wires seem to be the smog pump wires. Your best bet is a Haynes or Helms manual. These will tell you exactly what they are.

Re: More Mystery Wires

Thanks 1981Lt1, and again Chevy8588. I've been looking all day today to no avail. I guess they all go to smog/emission equipment long removed. BTW 1981LT1, i hope i haven't broken any internal combustion dynamics laws but, my EGR, if we R all talking @ the same thing, the EGR valve mounted on my intake manifold has no wires to or from it, just a vacuum hose. SOOOOO, i've looked till my eyes are blurry and glazed. A tune up has helped though. I love my car, just wish it ran smoother. Again Thank You All each and every one for the responses and help offered. It may be time for the kidney donation foundation to come pick this one up and i start over. C Jason

Where are you in NC? Maybe either get it fixed or sold.

Re: More Mystery Wires

Hi White gold 88, I'm in Asheboro next to the ZOO, the car appears in excellent condition, i've taken really good care of her, always garaged and covered. She was just abused before i got her ten years ago internally. In ten years I've driven her maybe three, hell the inspection sticker says 2006, (only 89k on the odom). I'm no ASE mechanic, & it's just so dang frustrating working out all the kinks, (lots of kinks). Cars just don't like to sit for any period of time. Everything works, just not well, and not to my safety & or satisfaction! I mean t-tops don't leak, ac is icy-cool r-12, headlight motors retract, hatchback remotely latches properly, torque converter locks up properly, pw, pd locks, cruise, stereo all work. It's just the small stuff, & it's added up, like Windshield washer, electronic carb out of whack, springs worn, auto antenna doesn't retract, choke light on, original paint but clear coat starting to peel, and as this thread began, stuff unhooked and removed. Sorry to be long winded. Just letting you know what I'm going through and why I'm so upset with it. I know I know anything can be fixed if i through enough money at it, but...I'm trying it the true American way, my self with the help of Thirdgen.org. C Jason

Re: More Mystery Wires

Im headed that way Friday. Going to Pilot Mtn Saturday for a cruise in, maybe G-boro Friday too. I go up 220 to G-boro. Let me know if there is anything I can help with. My previous F-body was a 84 Z HO. It had the electronic carb removed when I got it. The same wiring harness, dash, console, roof, tranny and gas tank is in my 88. I'm not an expert in mechanical, been a body man since 16, but I'll help any way I can. Shoot me a pm if you want with a number I can reach you at and I could stop by Friday if you want. It looks like I may be able to get off work early Friday so I'll get an early start that direction. BTW I've got an Edelbrock 1406 nearly new if you're interested. Even have adapter plate if you need it.

Forgot, Edelbrock has dual bolt pattern. Plate was for Holley.
