get one from dakota digital, its called the "sgi 5" vss buffer box. the newest version is the best because it has new + and - buttons that really allow you to fine tune your speedo, it is 70 or 80 bucks.
i think their website is dakotadigital.com

Yea...My speedo and tripo quit working today and sources told me I probably need a new buffer, when I was thing more in line of needing the round speed sensor that installs in the tail portion of the tranny. From research I've found statess there are a 4 and 2 out buffer. How does one find out which one he needs..
Re: Where to buy a VSS Buffer Box online
The buffer box is a 4 out Buffer part number is 25071437. DOn't belive I had found any online. It was attached to the back of my cars computer on passenger side,
In my case it ended up being wiring behind the dash, not just behind the instrument cluster, but everything pulled out to like the firewall,a nd was a wire harness behind there, running over the steering coloumn, peice of metel it sat against cut through the wiring. Had found a breakdown guide to test the different stuff don't remember were that is laying around at the moment.
The wiring was grounding itself to that peice of metal. so my speedo was acting crazy till it stoped. threw some tape around the power, speedo and somthing else wire, small bit around the metal peice, and all better,
the v8 speedo I got while i was trying to rule things out, the trip and odometer didnt work for my v6.
The buffer box is a circuit inside a yellow box that says 4 out buffer on it and the part number

Yep buffer box is usually attached to the computer.
IF your speedo is working but trip/odometer is not
working then the problem is most likely the driven
gear in the speedo head. I have gone through several
speedos with the same problem.
Using a Dakota Digital SG5 there is no need for the
buffer box AND you get to fine tune your speedo.
Am currently using a universal 8k ppm vss attached
to my B/W T-10 and the SG5 driving a 1989 GTA
electric cluster 140mph speedo in my 82 T/A.
Works great.
P.S. after removing the speedo drive motor from the
speedo head, the broken driven gear is visible...
