Spedometer stopped working

Hi, I was driving down the road and my speedometer went to 0. If I hit a bump somtimes it jumps up to random speeds but only for a second or 2. After that its dead. Do you guys know whats wrong? I would really like to know my speed lol.
Thanks

Re: Spedometer stopped working

is it electric? mines mechanical, did the same thing once. it also made a grinding noise one time on a date. but it still works... if your torque arm bushing is bad, it will bump it. and destroy the gears. but i think you got VSS

Re: Spedometer stopped working

The VSS on a mechanical speedo is on the backside of the cluster; on an electric it's located on the tail shaft of the trans. It seems that problems with the electric is fairly common. A search should turn up an abundance of information.

Re: Spedometer stopped working

Sorry for the double post....again. I was driving at what I assumed to be 30 and it said 70+ and jumped all around also the check engine light isnt on. Im assuming this means its loose at the cluster?
