Is there a cable-driven 140 for your application (I was thinking that all Bird 140's were electric)?

Im not sure about the cable driven 140mph speedo. If i cant do that ill just get a replacement like the one i have already. The trip wont reset on the one i have....drives me crazy. I was hoping i just had to disconnect the cable from the back and simply put in on the new one....sounds like not that easy?

Cable driven to cable driven and electric to electric is a simple swap.

Re: Want to replace speedo to 140 mph version

If your speedo is electric, which it should be, it is super easy. Remove the instrument cluster from the dash. It is a pain to get past the steering column, but it comes out in one piece. Remove the **** off the trip-odometer reset button so you can get the clear cover off. Remove the screws holding the clear plastic cover on and then the three or four screws on the back holding the speedo and circuit board to the cluster assembly. Install the 140mph speedo and reassemble the cluster.

When you buy a 140mph speedo you need to get one with the circuit board. The one with your current speedo will not work. This really is a plug and play job and the biggest pain will be getting the speedo cluster out of the car.

I have done this a couple of times and it has always worked out great.

Re: Want to replace speedo to 140 mph version

Im doing the same 85TA 350 (already in and a hard hitting mother) 85mph to a 140mph speedo... far as I can tell there are none for our years (unless theres aftermarket ones havent looked yet) alot of people swap to a 87+ clusters and convert to electric are u can go down in years 82-84 and they go140mph and 160mph are so iv read but I guess they look a little bit diffrent but thats what iv dug up so far
