Push Button Start & Other Questions...
What I have and plan to do...
I do not want to use a key to unlock wheel, or start the car.
I got the ECM / VATs covered....
Will removing the key cylinder solve the problem of the wheel locking?
Can I bypass the ignition switch at the bottom of the column?
I will have an alarm remote start (1 way of starting it)
The other method, I want to use a on / off button (to activate ignition) which powers a keypad, if you enter the right code, it allows access to start the car via 2dn momentary button (starter)... The keypad is a DEI Alarm accessory.
Here is a pic...
the top left red button would be for ignition, which would turn on the keypad to the right... if correct code is entered, then it allows you to use the big red button on the right to start the engine... (2 white switches are for windows, red and green for disco lights, smoke, etc

Any advice or notes would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Rafael

The turbo boost button is elsewhere
Locking Mechanism, the key cylinder, does that include the ignition switch at the bottom?
thank,
Rafael

Re: Push Button Start & Other Questions...
you have to remove the lock that engages the lock plate. I would replace the ignition switch with an 80amp relay.

You will need to remove all the wires that go to Ign switch and rewire them through your switch panel ( or pref relays )

Re: Push Button Start & Other Questions...
To remove the locking function of the wheel, you need to remove either the lock plate or the lock pin. Both are located in the column. The lock plate is the easier of the 2 to remove since you have to take it out to get the pin out, IIRC. I would still remove the key cylinder and smooth the column where it was and paint over it.
As for the pushbutton start, all the wires you need are at the bottom of the column. Use relays to make the connections, control the relays from your buttons.
Also, make sure you wire in a cutoff relay that shuts off whichever button you are using to actually engage the starter. That way if the button is accidentally pressed while the engine is running so you don't damage your starter or flexplate.

Re: Push Button Start & Other Questions...
AFAIK the lock plate needs to be in place to hold other stuff in. Best bet would be to remove the pin that holds into the slots in the plate.. OR you can modify the lockplate and remove the teeth from it and re-install it and everything will work the way it should without locking the wheel.
Is that a 'thug bug'? I have always likes the keypad starters.

Yeah, I remember ya, how goes it? I knew you were doing a knight rider replica, lol. I am actually thinking of getting the KITT bumper on my car when I get it painted, because I would need a new bumper anyway.

Re: Push Button Start & Other Questions...
Oh, you finally got the notch sold? Cool, should net you some money for your project, lol. I think if you remove the third brake like, isnt there 2 holes in the glass where it mounts? I'm not sure, but why don't you want a third brake light?
