power mirrors - switch or motor?

Having a problem with my driver side power mirror motor. It doesn't work at all. The passenger mirror will adjust up and down but not left to right. Any help for testing the switch and motors?

Re: power mirrors - switch or motor?

take the switch out and start jumping the terminals (take a small piece of wire and short the hot terminal with the others) if they start moving in the directions they dont now its the switch

Can also check continuity between the switch and the wires at the mirror - might be a break in the wires between door switch and mirror.

Re: power mirrors - switch or motor?

Thanks for the info. I tried to short the Orange wire (12V+) with the other wires on the back of the switch, but couldn't get the mirrors to move. Maybe I'm not doing something correct. I read in another post that 3 wires have to be connected to get the mirror to move Orange 12V+ plus Light Green plus Yellow to get driver side mirror to move up/down. The Yellow goes to both up down motors (passenger and driver).

I checked the driver side mirror for continuity. I have continuity between the yellow wire and green wire and also between the white and blue, which is the top side by side wires on the plug and the bottom side by side wires. Does that mean the motor is still good in that mirror? I've tested 2 wire motor's that way, but have to admit I'm a little confused when it comes to 4 wires.

The passenger mirror moves up and down, but not left to right. I was also able to verify that the switch is getting 12V power. Thanks again for any assistance.

Re: power mirrors - switch or motor?

Are you talking about converting from manual to power windows? Or getting replacement power window motor, etc?

That’s the wrong way to do it.

To test the motors connect:

Yellow to +, light green pin E to , then reversing polarity will produce up&down movement in the left mirror.

WHITE pin F to
+, light blue to , then reversing polarity will produce left&right movement in the left mirror.

Yellow to +, light green pin G to , then reversing polarity will produce up&down movement in the right mirror.

WHITE pin H to
+, light blue to , then reversing polarity will produce left&right movement in the right mirror.

If all the motors respond properly and you have 12 volts at the
orange wire you know the switches are the problem.

Thanks NINA I will try that out.

Just to confirm, when you say reverse the polarity, I simply switch the 2 wires the other way.

SoYellow to +, light green pin E to ▬, then reverse it by connecting Yellow to - and light green (pin E) to + ???

Re: power mirrors - switch or motor?

I was able to follow NINA's guidance and able to get the passenger mirror to move up and down, same as was working thru the switch. The Left to Right on the Passenger and both up/down and left/right on the driver side didn't work, so it looks like those motors are out. Thanks again for your help! I'll get some replacement mirror motors and see if that doesn't fix the issue.
