82 Cruise Control wth a CFI Engine - Some Info
I am posting this information in response to PM from another member regarding this early version of the Cruise Control. This type was only used on the 82 and 83 Camaros and Firebirds.
The pdf contains the schematic wiring diagram and a few other pages from the service manual. These additional pages show the throttle cable connections and routing and some of the control switch functions.
The photos show the throttle cable connections to the rear throttle body. The left cable is from the cruise control vacuum servo located next to the charcoal canister. The cable on the right is from the throttle in the car. The second photo shows some of the cable routing along the front of the block. The third photo shows the cruise control throttle cable support bracket on the front throttle body.
KITT 1983 the approximate throttle cable length from the rear connection point to the servo vacuum is about 38 inches. It is 1o inches from the front support bracket to the connection point, about 11 inches from the support bracket to where the cable begins to pass by the left side exhaust manifold and 17 inches the remainder of the way to the vacuum servo.
I will attach the pdf file with the schematic and the other sheets tomorrow.

For all intents and pruposes it is mechanical only for the 82 and 83s. the speed siganl is picked up from the speedo cable that runs through it. The cable from the tranny is the input speed signal and the output speed signal goes to the speedometer on the dash.
The transducer converts the speed signal to a vacuum signal that is sent to the vacuum servo motor and controls the throttle cable to the TI/carb.
All the electric control signals are from the cruise control switch on the turn signal lever.
I think the 84 and newer model years get the speed signal from either the VSS or the ECM.

We need to replace my cruise control stalk.
My autoelectrician removed the old stalk and it has 4 wires but the stalk i gave him had 3 wires.
The circuit diagram shown on this thread has 3 wires.
My car is a 1982 Recaro Transam.
Can we get the 3 wire stalk to work on my car?
Thanks

Re: 82 Cruise Control wth a CFI Engine - Some Info
A photo of the engine bay, on the front of the left (it may be the right wheel down under) wheel well would be helpful. We need to determine if you still have the cruse control mechanical (82-84?)transducer or the later electronic (84?-92) transducer.
The mechanical transducer uses the three wire stalk. The electronic unit uses the 4 wire stalk. Can your mechanic get a phot of the connector the stalk wires connected to? This is most likely near the base of the steering column.
The mechanical transducer can be identified by a speedo cable from the transmission to the transducer and a second speedo cable from the transducer to the speedometer.
I got your email also but will respond here.

the stock unit makes me want to hit it with a BFH

Re: 82 Cruise Control wth a CFI Engine - Some Info
I cant get a pic until next week.
I have two 1982 TAs and they both have the mechanical transducer as shown in the pic you uploaded so i know they are factory original.
In one of the cars the cruise control is not going.I removed the stalk and disassembled it a while back.It is also a 4 wire control. The wire colours coming off the terminals were Red,Green,Yellow and Blue
Ive also notice on the info you linked to that it says the push switch at the end of the stalk has 2 positions. Now i dont know if you are supposed to feel that second position as i cant on the switch i removed.
Also both my cars are crossfire.
