hey guys i have an 89 camaro iroc-z originally equiped with a 305 tpi and 5 speed manual and now it is carbed and been like this for years the issue i have started b4 my father baught the car in 03 the trunk latch pull down, the courtesey lights, horn, door locks, power mirrors, cigar lighter, power antenna, map lights and dome light all dont work and all run on the same fuse just wondering where should i start looking as i want all of them working again lol to make the car more enjoyable to have i know ther is power at the fuse panel and when i install a fuse it blows immediatetly any thaught would be apreciated and thanks for your time

 

i had that problem in my 86 it was the cig lighter. as long as i did not have it in their it was fine. i sold it before i could replace the scoket. hope it helps

 

I agree - pull the dash face off and disconnect the plug to the cig lighter, replace fuse, see what happens.

 

Yeah, that's the usual culprit. Also, make sure if you leave the socket unplugged rather than replace it keep the plug off the back of it insulated or no where near any metal or other wiring. The orange wire going to it is hot at all times

 

thanks to all of you for the good advice now just have to dig my car out of 3 feet of snow lol and try it i was hoping there was a simple solution and now have to try it

 

I had the same problem with my GTA a few years ago, checked all the wires only to trace it back to the cig lighter. Unplugged it and everything was fine after replacing the fusse. Didnt realize this was that common of a problem on these cars.

 

mine does the same thing if i put the cig lighter in. i can use the socket for other things, just not the cig lighter.

 

wow thats great info and i would never have thaught it to be a common issue but like most things you never know if you dont ask and my car never had the cigar lighter in it just the socket and i have another one from another car and if unplugging it works i can play around getting another one that works lol

hey guys just making an update to my situation the cigarette lighter was not the issue it is the power mirror switch that was the issue now the hatch releases the horn works dome lights everything lol now have to figure the hatch pull down and get a power mirror switch

If you can't find a mirror switch, I've got a good spare with all tabs intact I can let you have for reasonable, complete with bezel in white print, or yellow if you want that

 

that seems very great as mine need white print but one issue i live on the east coast of canada in New Brunswick so to pick it up would be a week long drive one way haha would be a nice vacation hahaha
