92 Camaro RS- Fog light switch gets HOT
Hello to all & best wishes to all. Here is I think my problem. I have installed
the fog lights on my car, I used all GM parts. The dash was already wired
by GM,all I had to do was put a relay and add the fuse. The problem I
think is the fog light switch gets really HOT. Not to the point of melting,
but it gets really warm, is this a problem or normal. Thanks to all.

Re: 92 Camaro RS- Fog light switch gets HOT
Your using the switch to activate the relay, which transfers power directly from battery to foglights right? Like this:

85 = 12v+ from foglight switch
86 = ground
87a = nothing
87 = 12v+ out to foglights
30 = 12v+ from battery

85 = 12v+ from foglight switch

87a = nothing
87 = 12v+ out to foglights
30 = 12v+ from battery

Thank you Camaronewbie for your reply. I see what you are saying, but is this a hazard or a normal thing for the switch to get that warm?

Re: 92 Camaro RS- Fog light switch gets HOT
If you have it wired correctly, then might just be normal. There's a little light in the foglight switch that can get warm simply because lights get warm. But I was using the relay diag to make sure you had an idea as to how it should be wired. If all that the switch is getting is enough 12v+ from the fuse block to activate the relay and light up the little light inside the switch, then it should be fine.
I used factory switch and wiring to put the fogs on my 1992 RS - but not sure I ever felt the switch to see if it was hot, I usually just leave them on all the time. But I'll check mine this weekend and see if it gets hot, and get back with ya.

I bought the under the hood harness off of ebey, it comes with instructions.
With the harness I bought it plugs into the bulk head on the fire wall.
It's just like the factory wiring. The fog lights go off when you put on the
high beams. If I can find the vendor I bought it from I will post.

Re: 92 Camaro RS- Fog light switch gets HOT
I got a 92 Firebird that didn't come with fogs, but I want to put them in.
I already have the factory switch, and I see that the connector is already there.
I know which wires have to go to a relay, but I'm not sure where they go from the switch.
Can anybody shed some light on this?
thank ya

Re: 92 Camaro RS- Fog light switch gets HOT
Just an FYI: Early switches weren't illuminated.
Some info from Jim85IROC that I thought was interesting:
From 86-on, your fog lights would work with your parking lights on and when your low beams are on. As you learned, they won't work with high beams.
BUT... in 85, in addition to many other one-year-only peculiarities, the fog lights would come on ONLY with the low beams. With just your parking lamps on, the fog lights will not come on.

I have a 92 Z28 that came with factory foglights and also gets hot after a while. I am pretty sure its the bulb inside.
