I'm tore up over it.My car was having a battery drain through what seamed to be the altnator.also hasn't been run much in a few years and when I got it I could start it with a shot of starting fluid.I put seafoam in the gas and put the new altnator on.Got it started and started running smother,but at a high idle,1500rpm.I let it run about 7 to 10 min.and shut it off.tryed to re start and nothing but turnning over.thats happened before. so I shot it with starting fluid again,this time no help.Now it turns over good.In the 10 atemps in the last 2 hours I did get a fire out of it.but no start.Now if vats is acting up,and i give it starting fluid and the thing is turning over,shouldn't it start for a few seconds at least?Plus if it were to be a fuel issue it should start till the fluid is gone,right?Vats only cuts off the fuel delivery dosn't it?What are the chances that it could have lost electric pulse or spark from just turning the key off?the only thing different was the high idle.

 

Have you check for spark?
What fuel pressure do you have?

VATS takes out starter and fuel injectors so if it cranks most likely not VATS related

 

I havn't taken eny sparkplugs out,or coil wire off.But two different times when I was tring to start it just before the battery would give out it fired a time or two.Can ya flood one with starting fluid?

 

OK,went out this morning and the altnator fixed the battery drain ptoblem.The car started right up,run ruff,did start and run though!I need to drain the tank change the fuel filter and injectors and get a transmition and i'm ready for the road.
