Wiring suggestions for 87 iroc
I recently swapped a 383 into my car, and finally got it running half decently. Still have to find a local shop to take it to so as to get it tuned properly, but it's at least driveable. I want to make the engine bay a bit more presentable before I take it to the shop, and the previous owner had made a rats nest out of the wiring harness. The fan wiring is all kinds of buggered up, and some of the connectors have the insulation pulled back from where the wire goes into the connector. It's a mess.
My question is, the three relays up on the firewall on the drivers side, from my searches it seems that they are AC relay, MAF burnoff relay, and Fuel pump relay, correct? They are using the old style packard in-line conectors, which are not waterproof and are fairly crappy and deteriorated. Is it safe to assume that these are fairly standard relays, and there is nothing special involved? positive and negative control coil wires, common, N/O and N/C outputs? I have schematics somewhere but I can't seem to find them atm, I'll do some searching on the forums to find them, but if any old relay would work I could probably spec something out myself as long as there's nothing special going on inside those relays. I've found some really nice waterproof buttsplices (Tycho PN D-436-37), so I can fairly easy splice in a nice waterproof relay connector pigtail harness if I find myself some.
If I could get some confirmation on them just being normal automotive relays would be greatly beneficial. Thanks in advance!
Edit:
If they turn out to be standard relays, I found these:
http://order.waytekwire.com/productd...20/40A%20SPDT/
http://order.waytekwire.com/productd...12%22%20LEADS/
Super cheap, and waterproof. Think I might replace my fan relays with those as well

Re: Wiring suggestions for 87 iroc
Nothing special that I know of in any of those relays. In fact, I don't even think they make use of the 87a terminal at all, even though they are SPDT you could use SPST, but SPST are easier to get/replace.
Wiring diags here for almost everything: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19
www.wiringproducts.com also has some nice stuff, and I have ordered from them before so they are a good company to deal with.
Another consideration if rewiring all this yourself - micro relays. Much smaller in size, could help make things look really clean! The hatch extend relay in our cars uses one, it's tiny, but same basic SPDT relay. Look at advanceauto.com - type in part number D1703A - that's the hatch extend relay - cute little bugger, a little more expensive, but less than 1/2 the size of a standard SPDT relay.
Good Luck!

Re: Wiring suggestions for 87 iroc
Thems be the wiring diagrams I was looking for
Thanks!
The stuff in the engine bay I'm going to stick with standard relays, since they're a bit cheaper and I can get weatherproof ones (Not that the stock ones were weatherproof, and they lasted 20+ years!). I'll probably redo a lot of the internal stuff though, since that's a mess as well, and I'll look into the micro relays for those. Gonna go place my order now, thanks again.
