So I've searched for an hour and couldn't find a solution to my problem so im gonna as you guys directly

when i go to start my car it usually starts right up. however sometimes usually when i need to be somewhere it seems lol the car wont crank over and i know if the security light stays on its vats but mine goes off. when i turn the key to start the fan goes off and the radio just like normally but it wont crank

what could be some possible solutions. the guy before me put a hurst shifter in the car and the neutral safety switch is rigged some how i have to look into what he did everything else seems normal

the car is a 91 z28 350

 

sounds like the starter relay in the drvers side kick panel, i had the same issue, replaced it and it starts fine now

 

Your basically down to the same issues as a pre vats car with the exception of the starter relay... I would replace the relay and see where you stand. Wouldn't hurt to have your battery and starter checked out as well... If you don't have one i would definately reccommend and high torque mini starter... they weigh a fraction of the original starter and use less volts to start your ride and so far mine is pretty much indestructible... but start with the relay... if it's going bad they have a tendancy to "stick" and thats why you aren't cranking...

 

awesome thanks guys ill just get a new one and see what happens since they are probably cheep i dont think thats it though cause i hear it clicking when i go to start it.

 

I'd say look into that "rigged" shifter wiring - on my stock shifter the Neutral Safety Switch doesn't always make good contact, and I get a single "click" rather than an actual start - I've since gotten it held better with tape since there is no problem with my switch or the connector, but rather the way they 'connect' to one another.

 

the starter relay is only like $21, so at least its cheap

 

Thread high jack what is a kick panel!!! Is it the plastic and my case fuzzy fabric panel held on with two screws kinda under dash going up and down or is what? my Door relay is in passenger kick panel and I do not think it was behind that rubbery or foam covered hole sorry high jack

 

under the plastic panel that your hood release us mounted in, then there is some black tar like goop that they hide the relay in

 

Are you sure its not an old imobilazer? I had this same kinda issue, when I had gotten my car. It had an imobilzer id turn the key nothing would happen, there would be power but absoloutely nothing happened. I thought it was the starter, I rremoved the starter and tested it, worked fine. Reinstalled it, then I had the bright idea to get a wire and cross it at the starter, I turned my key on and then crossed it at the starter with a wire. Car started right up, I had bought it from an estate after sitting for 2 years, nobody new a thing about the car. It started like a champ when I crossed it, and turns out it was an old imobilizer and they tend to mess up alot. So what I did was just installed a custom push button start
