Need Help With Check Engine Light

Hey guys, new here. I recently purchased an 85 K5 Blazer, which one of the previous owners swapped a tpi into. From what I can tell, it is either an '87 or an '89. I need to check the ecm for trouble codes, but I don't have a check engine light (either not hooked up, or its burned out). How would I go about wiring a light in, or can I temporarily use a test light instead? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cool, at least its possible. I went ahead and bought a red led while I was out, so I can hook it up as the cel when i figure it out. I've seen everything from the cel being pin D on the aldl to ground pin 12 to pin 6. I don't want to go grounding anything on the aldl, without knowing what it is first, ya know?

yea, from what i rembmer you wire the light to pins on the aldl and when you do the paperclip trick to get the store codes it flashes the wired light just like it would the SES light. im gonna try and find the thread with that diagram in it.
