1990 camaro vat bypass help needed

anyone know where the resistor goes ( once u get the right resistance 2.92K ohms on VOM ) to bypass oem security system, been having intermittant cranking problems and have not found the wire to install resistor permanetly so I don't need high dollar key, and oem componets failing.

Look for the white wires with the orange sleeve under the drivers side dash panel.

Nah...if you have the resistors, just wire them in and turn the key. If it turns over, youre good.

If you remove the panel under the steering wheel( you may need to remove both of them) you will see a bright orange wire that is really a sleeve for two small white wires coming out the bottom of the steering column. There is a small plug on the end that plugs into a plug with a white with purple stripe wire and a purple with white stripe wire going into it. You need to put the resistors between the two purple and white wires, either by unplugging, or cutting on the orange side and unplugging and removing that side to take out of the car. Then you can easily solder or attach the resistors between the white wires and just plug it back in to work. Or you could also wedge it in between the plugs if you would rather. Did I get too confusing, or does that make sense? Hope it helped

Re: 1990 camaro vat bypass help needed

Are there any issues with bypassing with just a resistor? I'm inclined to believe no, but I'm wondering if the car would make that annoying door open sound all the time without the key in. Not entirely sure if the two circuits rely on each other.

If this method works, we need to provide some pics, wire diagrams, and this will be one of the best topics of the year, as it is by far more cost effective than a manufactured part.

They have nothing to do with each other. The part that actuates the sound is in the column by the key switch
