I recently purchased a 91 trans am for some fun and to hopefully give to my son when he turns 16. Any way we have been working on some minor problems and I have noticed that when I just push the parking light button the headlights also flip up and when I turn it off they go down. I do not have to turn the actual headlight button on, although if I do it works also. Any thoughts as to why the headlights come up.

 

Sounds like a bad dash switch. Might see if you can look inside it & see if anything is short circuited in there.

 

Some say you need to rebuild the headlight motors. Some say you need a new switch. Im having the same issues, ima try a new switch first, if that dont work then rebuild the motors.

 

When I get the chance i will replace the switch and see what happens.

Bad switch, doesnt have anything to do with the motors themselves. If they grind for a second or two after they go up/down or dont move at all, then the motors need an overhaul

 

Ahhj got it, what if only one motor grinds & the other doesnt?

 

Then that motor needs a rebuild and the other doesnt... yet

 

One motor looks new though, its clean & not black, idk if has been replaced.
