Best Mounting Location For Viper Brain Box?
I'm asking this to all the guys out there who have a Viper system in their car.
Since the kit I purchased (5901) has an internal shock sensor, I am aware that the location and surface that the main unit is mounted to is critical to the sensitivity of the shock sensor. Due to the length of the included harnesses, I have determined that the most ideal ideal location for mounting would be under the dash. I wanted to put the module somewhere less obvious IE under one of the backseats but I'd have to significantly modify all the harnesses as they just aren't long enough.
So my question is that I've read mounting the unit to a firm surface IE the vehicle chassis, steering column or firewall will result in poor shock sensor sensitivity. What is a good strategy to use when mounting the unit?

Well, I don't know about your 85, but the A/C ducting under the dash in my 87 has a little "cubby" where GM later installed the VATS module. It's not easy to get at. I have both the VATS module and my Excalibur alarm brain under there, with the shock sensor attached to the dash bracket next to the steering column. Only problem is that you would need to remove the dash to get at this spot (or at least the middle dash duct). And, if the alarm box is too thick, it could interfere with parts alignment.
But, then, I have a Bird... Yours may have a different location open.
And yes, the shock sensor is pretty much solidly mounted as that part of the dash bracket is right next to where it gets sandwiched between the body bracket and the steering column. I haven't had any problems with it...
