well cant get my hatch light to turn off !!!
all doors and the hatch closed the light stays on
is there any fuse or relay i need to look for ?

i found out i had the plug and wire, light after i changed out hatch motor !

Ha ha there are no switches in my car its pretty bare manual everything !!!!
On my 84 z28 I figured it would be the window switches on the console but it not and yes the **** iS turned off and the light is still on !!!!

pull the bulb is the only solution as I cant see why it is on as the only time it will be on is when the hatch is open. Is there something like in the door jamb for the lights in the interior to turn on when the doors open?? I have only had switches in the cars I have had and thats all i ve ever seen.

 

Have you tried the switch under the hatch right by the light?

 

Yeah that switch. Why GM put that idiotic switch there instead of an automatic jamb switch, I dont know.

 

he said he has no switch but then again it could have been missed its so dam small. Better check again as thats got to be it

 

Please post a picture of that switch by the hatch light-bulb... please. I have the same problem along with my hatch pull-down motor just stopped too. So light stays on (I disconnected it for now) and hatch motor doesnt work. The trunk release switch on the center console works fine.

Any ideas??

I don't have that switch @ all the car is 92 v6 5 speed
No switches on the console.
My rear hatch motor never work so I replaced it!
I've never seen a camaro with out a rear hatch light
Maybe I never had one to start and the po but it in there off another car ?
Is the a rpo code for the rear hatch light
?
Ill keep it unplugged until I can figure this out !

The fact that it is a 92 explains why you don't have the manual cargo light switch. It was changed in 89 or 90 to being controled by the striker-sensing switch. For the 89 thru early 91 models unplug the wite wire from the black with orange stripe wire. The white wire on those pull-down units provide a switched ground to turn on and off the hatch light. On your late 91-92 it should be controlled by the striker switch. I'm not aa familar with the late 91-92 style pull-down unit's wiring. I'll need to check one of them I have when I get a chance. As others have posted you can unplug the light until you find the cause.

Aha, there's a bit of thirdgen trivia I was unaware of. Can't believe it took GM till nearly the end of the run to automate this light - I am always leaving that stoopid switch on! Must get around to rewiring it myself.

 

Here is how my problem began:

I originally disconnected the rear cargo light to remove the plastic panal (that the light is attached too). When I was done with the panel I re-connected the light and installed the panel back (rear hatch was up obviously) light came back on no problem. I closed the hatch and the locking mechanism didn't engage, motor didnt turn on. I tried closing it several times... nothing. I lowered the hatch and looked inside, the rear cargo light stays on. I checked the wiring nothing wrong looking, or crossed. I don't know what is going on with it. I just disconnected the light and here I am. Btw.. I have a 1991, so no manual switch on the panel (like on the picture).

 

I did the opposite adding a manual switch in addition to the light being turned off by the striker switch. To automate yours just connect the white wire that is unused to the ground from the light.

Everything worked the motor waz just bad.
Ill take a second look @ the wiring tho thanks for the tip.

 

Hello I fixed my problem by finding the lever that comes into contact with the striker. I simply just pushed it downward with my finger, the motor activated and moved upward in order to make contact with the hatch striker. I reconnected the bulb and it works just fine. Thanks everyone.. if anyone has this problem its an easy fix and I can send a picture just ask.
