Digital Speedometer Help
I have a 1987 Trans Am with the digital dash, it was originally305 TPI or TBI with T-5, cant remember off the top of my head, but it was switched to a carb before the junkyard I pulled it out of got it, and it ran fine, tranny was messed up though, anyways I am putting a 350/TH350 combo in it and I'm wondering if the speedo with hook directly to the TH350 or will I need some type of adapter for it to work.
I've googled it about 100 different ways and searched this forum the last hour, and all the post I've seen never come to a conclusion, if you do, or do not need an adapter
Thanks

No the speedometer will not hook directly up to the TH350 , The speedo is electronicitly controlled and run by wires from your tranny to your speedometer and your computer. And I have no idea if they even have an adapter for this switch.

Re: Digital Speedometer Help
If you have a cable drive with the optical sensor on the back of the ip it will hook up. If it was a vss than get a 2k ppm vss.

Hey sorry for being illiterate but what does vss mean? I know the speedo was working with the carb setup that was on it and its going back carbed so I guess I'm out of luck...

Re: Digital Speedometer Help
VSS: Vehicle Speed Sensor. It is installed on transmission. Wires runs from VSS to the ECM. Its job is to 'sense' speed and provide information to ECM. ECM collects information from various sources and VSS is one of them. Based on all info, ECM sends controlling signal to the 'fuel/air' system for engine performance. Depending on vehicle, this performance may range from 'engine won't start' to 'best run'. For a 'non-carburated + Auto trans' VSS certainly play a major role.

Re: Digital Speedometer Help
Look under the car at drv side rear of trans location
If you have a speedo cable there; it will connect to the TH350.
If there is a 2 wire plug with yellow and purple wires ,you need the cable driven VSS unit to supply the signal to the dash

As soon as I check for Rattlers under it I'll look, its sitting without drivetrain at the moment but it as soon as i buy a torque converter for it, and paint the engine, its gonna run, I hope. Getting my permit on Friday and this Third Gen will be the car that teaches me how to drive
