stock shift light

I noticed the other day that my car has the spot for the stock upshift light. When i dug in my shop manual, I could see the circuit for the light, but the manual doesn't say where the wire comes from that activates it.

Does anyone know how the light behaves? is it set to come on at a certain rpm in the ecu? How can I test the light? Mine doesn't come on, which could just be a blown bulb, I haven't dug in the cluster yet, but being as I'd like to have a shift light, if using the stock one is viable, I'd like to do that.

The ECM will turn it on any time it thinks you're in too low a gear. Very rarely will it be when you also think you're in too low a gear.

Oh hell. So it won't work the way I thought it would. Do they make some type of control module that I can run to the light and turn it into a normal shift light?

Re: stock shift light

You'd just need a regular RPM-activated switch.

Re: stock shift light

The light is for maximizing gas mileage, not performance. At today's gas prices, that is pretty useful to have if you can get it to work. Have the real shift light for your launches but use the other one when you are traffic.
