HID reverse light on my ThirdGen

At night I cant see to back up at all. To make matter worse, day or night it was as if people didn't know I was backing out and they would zoom past me. Pretty dangerous.

I picked up this HID kit for 39.95 from a local stereo shop. Its 35w and even fully warmed up it is still cooler than the incandescent's. I was a very easy swap, the included grommets fit perfectly in the hole.

This is how I wired it up, real simple and the ballast fit nicely in the area next to the reverse lights. I did have to cut just a little to get them to slip in.

I haven't had it in long, but after install I left it in reverse for like 10 minutes and it was still cool to the touch. These bulbs are very cool when compared to incandescent bulbs.

H.I.D. "capsules" run much much cooler than conventional bulbs.

Technically they are called capsules, as they arent bulbs in the conventional sense.

Are all HID capsules or just the ones in these cheap hid kits?

They're all capsules. It doesn't matter if you bought them on ebay, or they came as OE on an M6.

How did you mount the bulb socket in the housing? Is that clear silicone holding it in?

Re: HID reverse light on my ThirdGen

The black part going into the housing is a grommet included in the kit. It actually fit perfectly.
