TPI is installed but engine wont start
The TPI is complete and wiring is done, getting fuel and air and must be getting spark because she will just crank and then POP!....back fire out the of the intake and not start....... I put the engine at top dead center and dropped the distributor back in on 1 and none of the plug wires and crossed but she wont start????? the engine is trying to though. Any ideas??????
It is probably something stupid I'm doing wrong but, any help would be awsome.

the only thing I could think of is I was reading it wrong and set it 180 out.

Pull valve cover, watch rockers, find TDC compression, check distributor.

when your finger is blown off the hole you are TDC on the compression stroke.
Rotor should be pointing at #1 plug wire on the dist cap

could it have anything to do with the ECM? I just hope I didn't screw anything up and I repined it right.

Only testing will tell.
You should mention "little " details like that when asking for help because everybody assumes you have a normal functioning TPI setup
that has suddenly stopped working;
not some new setup that you have modified and never started before

Unless the wiring diagram is totally screwed up and BS I do know how to read and passed an my base line mechanical and electrical engineering classes there really shouldn't be any way that the wires didn't end up in the right locations.

well..the car is running just idols roughs...change that fuel pump and bring the fuel psi up where it should be and it should be set to go. oh yea...don't forget to tune it.It should be worth swapping TBI crap to MAF TPI.

Re: TPI is installed but engine wont start
I am not going to be able to continue anything until I get back up north from SC but, yes I do still have the weak TBI fuel pump but, I was never planning on leaving that I have a brand new TPI pump to be installed I just wanted to start the engine up to see if it would fire up and what not. I have done some investigation and it is pretty well determined that when the fuel pump is swapped and the fine tuning is done it will run great.

Re: TPI is installed but engine wont start
I wouldn't start that engine again until a proper pump is in. That pressure is not adequate and the fuel will barely atomize and is probably dropping out very quickly. ECM will try to compensate by raising BLMs. If enough fuel drops out and the ecm raises BLMs too high you could wash the cylinder walls or just flood the engine.
