So I've ran into a problem, my car fires up and runs perfect everytime I turn the key, but when I turn the key off the car keeps running perfectly even revs and will shift into drive and such. If I turn on just power and turn the key off that works but if I start the car and turn the key off it won't stop I can even take the key out and unplug the battery and it keeps running

 

Your alt is back feeding the car.
More info is needed tho..

 

A little info on your car ( year , motor , mods etc ) goes a long way to getting accurate help

With the battery gone only place engine can get power is from the Alt

 

there needs to be a diode,light bulb,or resistor in series with the alternator
"turn on"wire-alternators meant for"guage"clusters have the resistor
built in,but "warning light" ones do not-a small bulb such as #194 will
stop the backfeed.

 

It's an 1987 camaro Z28 305tpi 700R4.
So your thinking more of an electrical problem is what I need to look at?
